Had I given Infini a few more spins prior to making my list, it would've made my 15 easily. Great record. :guitar:

Surprised by a couple of those. Was I the only person that had Tenet on their list? Thanks again for all of your hard work, LOAF.

Sure, but I wouldn't call recent Anathema even that

But if you're holding your breath for Anathema to release a genre-defining masterpiece while making their brand of modern-day Air Supply, after an ill-omened seven-year stretch between albums, eight albums into their career, well...just make sure you have a friend nearby with a scalpel and a Bic pen.

For my money, I don't think the idea of a genre-defining masterpiece is something we can count on recognizing quickly anymore (if we ever could, reliably anyway). I think we'll all have a much clearer idea of what albums might qualify from the past few years in five, ten years, whatever...and we still won't all even remotely agree on which ones they are.

The fact that Dying Fetus is not mentioned one time ANYWHERE on any of the Bravewords staff lists is embarassing and bullshit....

Megadeth and Slayer? wake the fuck up.....

I printed off the list and have started my journey to listening to every band. There are so many bands on the list that I've never heard of let alone listened to I decided to go through them all on YouTube or where ever.
I'm off............................................... :shred:

Beyond genre-defining, I'm more generally talking about albums that genuinely stand out, that make a real impact on me beyond being an adequate representation of where their genre is at currently.

And honestly, I have full confidence in Anathema's ability to release a fantastic album whenever they see fit, considering they have never put out anything even approaching a substandard record. At this point in their career, there is clearly very little monetary motivation for them, and they can take as much time as they need to flesh out an album that will be a work of authentic passion, and not some phoned in "put it out so we can tour and sell some t-shirts" type release.

This I certainly agree with. All of their albums are classy and excellent music in one way or another, from their earliest death metal demos, to their doomy mid-period, to the brililance of the Judgement album, all the way to their recent rock output.

The only problem I have with the list is Mastodon at #4. The album sucked big time.

Cheers to LOAF for putting this together...no big surprises in there, other than The Chasm and maybe Amorphis placing in the top 10. I was a little surprised The Project Hate wasn't there at all, but I think only I and nonesovile voted for it (both highly, though).

Yeah, it's not like the Braveboard at all to put an album that actually deserves to be in the top 10, in the top 10.

I still disagree with that Nile being #1. It's a decent album. There's one really really good song. The rest is filler. It deserves to be in the top 100... but closer to somewhere in the middle. Definitely NOT #1.

I wonder how different the top album list would be if, to qualify, you had to have heard at least 30 albums from that year.

I honestly regret putting Nile on my list. It got really tiresome after only the 3rd or so listen. The last two times I tried listening to it I couldn't get past the 3rd or 4th track.

That has always been my main problem with them.

I find them ok but I just never really feel the need to re-visit their albums.

The list is fine, people just stop whining about it not being a copycat version of their own personal list for fuck's sake.

The higher rank albums are there because they are solid releases for the most part, but mostly because they were heard by more than 3 people. The Chasm made it because the handjob this album got around here made a lot of people take the time to check it out, hence it was on more lists . Its just as simple as that.

So yeah, NIle was heard by 3/4 of the board and ended first, and no Dying Fetus was not even heard by 1/10 of the board and didn't score high.

But I agree that it may seems flawed at first (Slayer and Behemoth, seriously :) ) but its great to see what was the appreciated & most heard (cumulative elements) albums from the braveboarders. It's not trying to be anything more than that really...

The new Tori Amos would have made my list, had I heard it sooner. It's really good. :m:

You're giving people way too much credit if you think that this will happen, man.

Anyways, thanks to LOAF for doing this yet again. It's a tradition that I always enjoy!

Oh wait, I mean:

Waaaah, this list blows, this place sucks, it doesn't have the albums on it that I voted for. WAAAAAHH!!!! WAAAAAHH!!!!
