Still a massive nope for me on that Acerus. So much promotion 'round these parts, so I decided to give the last album a whirl. Just really, really underwhelming. Don't get it. New tracks were lifeless.

It's only like two people. They just do it way too much. :)

actually, its not doing it for me. riffs are ok but not memorable and the vocals are bad. :(

but thanks for thinking of me! :)

Gygax - Critical Hits

Basically this is the reincarnation of Gypsyhawk and sounds very similar. Southern-ish Rock with a Lizzy edge.

I always thought Gypsyhawk had great Motorhead/Thin Lizzy potential but they had that southern twang or stoner space fuzz rock thing that kept me from really digging them. I tried reaching out to the band several times when I lived in Cali to do shows together, never got a response. The whole Gygax thing means they just went further down that sci-fi space rock path. Meh.

Some excellent Pagan Metal out of Spain. Track 2 features Wulfstan of Forefather on clean vocals.

Exmortus - Ride Forth (Thrash, USA, Prostethic Records)

Heard these guys for the first time when they opened for Cauldron/Warbring/Enforcer last week in Toronto. I really dug what I heard, but unfortunately failed to pick up their album at the merch table. (now I need to pay through the teeth to mailorder it).

This album has a weird but cool SkeletonWitch meets Arsis meets Nuno Bettencourt vibe. It's really quite good, and just the right length for a thrash album. Check it out!

"Hymn of Hate" stood out for me as it impressed me live:

Saw them open for Enforcer as well. They were alright. Great players. Vocals were super boring though.

Yep, that's where I'm at-- listened to the debut nonstop, can't even get through more than 2 songs in 1 sitting on the new one.

Brimstone Coven - BLACK MAGIC

Traditional doom metal for y'all from Metal Blade. I checked out the video below and was impressed enough to purchase the whole album. I have no comment on that yet but sampling it promises excellent listening. So, for fans of old school heavy and Pentagram and shit like that, you're welcome. ;)

Album rules! It's even better than the debut, and I liked that one a lot.

Band also features Andrew D'Cagna (Pohonasin) of Nechochwen on bass.

Nothing ground breaking, but quite enjoyable. Vocals are really buried in the mix in most parts, though...

Sounds like a pretty fun and killer Canadian Metal band. That album cover pretty much rulz (with a Hair Metal "Z", bitch!).

I'm digging this a lot...

This Fuath band is awesome, I'm not familiar with the guys previous work. Heard little bits of Saor. Really enjoying that I album, will buy it if I can get a physical copy. Huge ear bone with this find. Quite good shit.

First time hearing about some new Striker. Interested in hearing what there doing now. All the songs in eyes in the night is 10/10, awesomeness. Witnessing them here in Kingston with Cauldron was pretty memorable. Every time I listen to chained to the nite I think of those days. And that time on concession st where I had the album in the background while I was with my then polish gf getting the deed done. I listened to the new Cauldron on youtube and was a little underwhelmed. I think it will take a few listens to grow on me. I flaked out on their tour when they came around here with Enforcer. :/
