The logo is badass.

But so is the entire album. Definitely sneaking into my top 10 since I'm fairly precarious about the new Exodus. It's decent but I really dig the vintage German execution of Mortal Strike.

Very good stuff. When does this come out? I'll be interested to hear the rest.

It was released in March. Three songs steaming @ https://soundcloud.com/rankakustannus/imya-na-stene

I really thought October 31 was a household name in the Oracle, like it should be.

Atmo BM from Germany that manages to sound fresh. The whole affair sounds impressively tight for a debut.

It's only an EP but it kicks some pretty serious ass in it's short duration.

*It's also free for today as is all of their releases* :) ;)

Awesome, I'll check it out then. I'll also be looking into this German BM you just posted. :m:

Getting down to the wire this year with some releases...

I'm unsure as to whether or not this album has been mentioned in the thread and I'm too lazy to search so I'll give you my quick two cents on this album.

It's great, as most October 31 is, and if you're a traditionalist at heart this album might be exactly what you need to end the year with. If you don't know October 31 then this is as good an album as any to start with, and it is fronted by King Fowley of Deceased fame. Ultimately it's probably not as good as other October 31 releases and definitely isn't going to match up with anything by Deceased, but it's great on its own merits and has no particular weaknesses.

It emulates secondary (or primary, depending on where you stand) riff-based NWOBHM bands like Saxon, Accept and Witchfinder General and has a slightly gritty Venom influence (got a fuzzy, less clean guitar sound) to match King's naturally deep "shout at the devil" voice, and he sounds like he hasn't aged a day. To complete the package there's also that ghoulish 80's "movie poster/comic book" vibe that is part of their trademark sound and reminiscent of the cheesier Fate/King Diamond moments and it delivers as well now as it has in the past with both October 31 and Deceased. You might think that with a safe set of riffs and energy that there isn't a whole lot of edge on this album but it's got the right feel and catchiness that songs are easy to pick up and after a couple of listens you might catch yourself shouting along.

It's not a very fast album, but the songs themselves just seem to have the speed dial set slightly higher than say a band like Cauldron might, and that just boils down to Fowley's experience at the helm. He knows for this type of music to have the right energy you gotta take it up just a bit to throw people off, and thus the 10 songs don't ever drag but keep it rolling heavily and mightily.

You can listen to the whole rocker here, courtesy of Hell's Headbangers (of course):

http://hellsheadbangers.bandcamp.com/al ... he-hatchet

And here are the couple of reviews on Metal-Archives:

http://www.metal-archives.com/reviews/O ... et/443172/

If you're familiar with autothrall's reviews and tastes you'll know he has pretty high standards and doesn't just give out 80% scores for no reason.

edit: In fact, autothrall's review says everything you need to know about this album!

Doesn't look like a quick two cents, looks like you did hella work. I'm surprised that you didn't know if October 31 was already mentioned. I envision you and BCTW dropping shit in spreadsheets and nerding out with =VLOOKUPs and shit. "Look at all the pretty colors and tabs babe." "Get me a beer while you're in the kitchen babe, I'm busy slapping a filter on this bitch and I'm about to sort the shit out of it."

My problem with October 31 and Deceased is that King half shout-talks lyrics as if you can hear him reading them off a sheet of paper in the vocal booth. He doesn't really have any hook or memory, just intonating the words off the top of his head. It's like he's forcing each sentence to fit each meaure by alternating how longs he shouts words. Very amateurish, that's all.

The problem, in my opinion, is that he tries to fit too many lyrics into songs; that started with Fearless Undead Machines.

I think my favorite Deceased album will always be The Blueprints For Madness, its full-length predecessor. Such great ingenuity can be found on that slab of horror.

Fowley tells you a story. It's amazing.

I just want to know if BCTW and BB caved and snagged the trick-or-treat goody-bag edition of those three Oct. 31 LPs. :)

Also, I kinda think the new one is their best yet.

Don't get me wrong, I still like Deceased, but I thought they were better when King let the music breathe more between the lyrics.

No :(

If it wasn't for the Order From Chaos box set, we probably would have.

Maybe he asked for it not to be? He does not come off as the kind of guy who wants to draw a lot of attention to himself other then answering some friendly questions.

If you don't like the thread then ether post some albums from 2014 you like that are not already in here or get the fuck out.

This thread is the only reason to even bother coming to the Braveboards for the past year, other than Neil's.
