the fretless bass sound on this entire album is amazing, great album. :band:

Yep, great bass work all around. i'm surprised more people aren't talking about this band and their new album.

So I've been blessed with an advance listen of the newest ACERUS album, "The Clock Of Mortality." If you didn't know, Acerus is a side project of Daniel Corchado (and previously Julio Viterbo) of THE CHASM. It is essentially the stripped down and raw heavy metal power behind THE CHASM, and 2013 was the first release and it was called "The Unreachable Salvation." I plugged it pretty hard and I still love it but I know that many were disappointed with it, wanting it to be more related to The Chasm and not expecting a raw heavy metal record.

This one is definitely superior, and it is done by Corchado himself (including vocals). The songs are longer (averaging 6-7 minutes), taking their time to develop properly and featuring more thought out leads and instrumentation. A ton of leads on this release! It's the same sound as the first album, but due to its more adventurous instrumentation it sounds more related to The Chasm than the first album did. There's no change in style in the vocals - it's Daniel doing a gruff and gritty rasp (though he gets operatic at times!) - which I know to some was a weak point on the first album. But the soul is there, and it sounds raw and heavy!

All in all, I know you're hearing this from a huge fan of The Chasm and I loved the first release, but this will definitely be near the top of my list this year and I think anyone who was disappointed with the first Acerus album should really listen to this because it's closer to The Chasm, but all heavy metal.

I'm awaiting word on when it will actually be released but in the hopes that it comes by the end of the year I am posting this here!

:m:

This album, due to artwork issues, has now been pushed back to the end of January, so it is no longer a 2014 release.

Still, it's the first great album of 2015. So there's that.

He finally finished off releasing this album today (one song a month for a year plus two extra). There are some really cool reinterpretations of old songs (it's a cover album) from a whole bunch of different backgrounds. Atmospheric and brutal, but in a weird sort of way. Good shit that's free so it's a least worth a listen.

Did a forum search and the name didn't come up so I'm assuming no one has posted about this album.

Was described by Invisible Oranges as a new Akercocke and it's exactly that. It's fantastic. I think any Akercocke fans should spin this a few times and live with it a little before finalizing your year end lists!!!

Ardraos from Peste Noire/Christcide. For fans of Windir and others. Album is a ripper with just enough mid-pace/acoustic/Heathenish stuff to make it special.

Still waiting for this to be available again to order online. According to the Facebook page, it SHOULD be late September.

"September."

Finally available to pre-order. Supposedly shipping out December 1st.

Just ordered mine.

It's about damned time! I was wondering what the deal was. Thing was MIA and I couldn't find any info about it. The Goat has just ordered the 3-CD pack with the bonus misprinted case! :abbath:

I just ordered that package as well but the package I had included the white vinyl (only 100 pressed) and my total was right at $74 with shipping included.

Looking forward to hearing this as well. For those not familar with the band, it's King Fowley from Deceased's other band - where Deceased is mostly death metal, October 31 is more dirty traditional heavy metal. The connection is obvious when you hear it and October 31 is definitely worth a listen.

It was a good thread, but it reminds me of how much stuff I didn't get around to hearing this year. I still got through a big pile of things though, and found a few in here. Now I just need to get a year and list together.

It did indeed, yet even on this very page you had to add a description for Oct. 31, because some chucklehead just posted a picture of the cover :stupider:  :(

Third album from Russophiliac Finnish Doomsters KYPCK. The songwtiting is on par with the sophomore, which is a notch down from the excellent debut.

Very good stuff. When does this come out? I'll be interested to hear the rest.

The first listen was nothing mind blowing. I might take another crack at it to see if he truly is on to something here, but I know it is not going to make my Top 15.
