2014 Albums That Deserve Attention (READ OP BEFORE POSTING)
So, we're trying out something new, and posting this at the beginning of the year instead of at the end. It'll (hopefully) be stickied, and with any luck by the end of the year we'll have a comprehensive list of all the albums that came out this year. Because we want this to go all year, it's probably a good idea to save your comments for somewhere else (so that it doesn't go past 50 and get locked). I suggest the Random Metal Thoughts thread, or simply make your own thread about it! Try and keep it to this formula:------------------------ BAND NAME - ALBUM TITLE Description of the band and the album - try it include subgenre, what it sounds like, similar albums or artists, and any other details you think are important. Remember, the idea is that you are trying to sell the album to people who might be interested in it. Metal Archives pageBandcamp pageSong on youtubeAny other urls you think important ------------------ Go!

The Wounded Kings - Consolamentum https://soundcloud.com/user3105090/the- ... gs/s-MzZ9pSerious Doom from these Brits. Their last album, In the Chapel of the Black Hand, was the first to feature Sharie Neyland on vocal duties. Great voice kinda in the vein of Jex Thoth. Heavy as balls and doomier than fuck, this shit is gonna be devastating. https://www.facebook.com/thewoundedkings

I'll listen to it, but preferred them a lot more prior to Sharie becoming the vocalist. I haven't listened to the last one in a while though. I should.

Hail Spirit Noir - Oi Magoi Release Date: January 20th, 2014 Label: code666 Records Progressive/Psychedelic Rock/Black Metal The second album from Hail Spirit Noir is a trip into the obscure and all things black, filthy and psychedelic. It bears the title "OI MAGOI" (transl. "the magicians") and features seven new chapters… a psychoprog black metal album of trippy melodies and satyric ecstasy. http://www.metal-archives.com/albums/Ha ... goi/394688https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hail-Spi ... 2670728238FULL ALBUM STREAM: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58r8KXNVqxUREVIEW AT METAL STORM: http://www.metalstorm.net/pub/review.ph ... w_id=12224

metalrob666 wrote: SloughFeg - Digital Resistance I know there was already a thread about this but i think it deserves to be listed here as well But it ain't out and listenable yet you dirty son of a bitch! The Lawrence Arms - Metropole (modern punk rock) http://www.badsandwichchronicles.net/20 ... ner-video/The singles for the album aren't particularly strong, but they are catchy as fuck. I like Hickey Street and the last batch of songs on the album the most. Not sure if this tops Oh Calcutta! for me cause Old Dogs Never Die and Great Lakes/Great Escape is some of the best shit evah! But there's a sense of urgency and sincerity and maturity in the music in Metropole that makes it very compelling and more enjoyable on each listen. Details on sound? Old Goo Goo Dolls with a strong dash of their own personality, which is rooted in the chicago (late?) 90's punk sound. Basically, if you like Asian Man/Fat Wreck bands... Don't think I've heard any new metal this year. Worst thing you get from this post is bad music and a link to a pretty hilarious blog on parenting and random bullshit. UPDATE EDIT: I can't even handle how much I loved Oh Calcutta! so a few months into the year my bias is getting clear. Having heard a few similar bands in this genre, I don't know, but Menzingers' Rented World is eclipsing this Metropole album. Even next to a solid album like Taking Back Sundays' Happiness Is, the Lawrence Arms are sounding a tad behind. Sorry to veer off the metal track, friends, but metal has live to up its motherfucking game if it wants my attention. Slough Feg are still the metal kings this year but I haven't probed too much...

Mustasch - Thank You For The Demon Released in Europe already. Heavy Metal/Stoner Metal from Gothenburg. Haven't heard a single song yet. I think there is a song up on their page and I plan on listening to it very soon.

Re: 2014 Albums That Deserve Attention
Please note that this thread isn't just for albums that aren't out yet - the purpose of this thread is to get people to listen to albums that came out this year, not to act as a PSA for upcoming ones. I'm not saying don't mention the upcoming ones, but the emphasis of this thread should definitely be on albums you already know and enjoy and want to share with others.

It would be better to post about an album once some listening is done and it warrants recommandation. That's the point. And having the thread early in the year (and sticked) allows to add them up as the year goes on. Posting about an upcoming album is interesting but at the same time it just might suck donkey balls.

Re: 2014 Albums That Deserve Attention
Yeah, I think this thread should be dedicated only to albums that have been released and listened to. It will be a lot better for everyone. We already have a 'New releases this week' thread by The Mourners Oak that is solid for upcoming albums.
