The Fen album is pretty good too, band has come a long way. My album of the year is definitely Anathema, but if they hadn't released anything, Spectral Lore, Panopticon and Blut Aus Nord are all damn fucking close.

Молот - Молатакрыж

Folksy heavy/thrash not for the faint of heart. A notch down from the outstanding Pogoney k novoy ere, but still a lot to like.

Mike LePond's Silent Assassins

Image

This album came out back in September, this is Mike LePond's (bassist for Symphony X) first solo album. It features Alan Tecchio (Hades, Seven Witches, Watchtower) on vocals, “Metal Mike” Chlasciak (Halford, Sebastian Bach, Testament) on guitar and Symphony X bandmates Michael Romeo on guitar and keyboards and Michael Pinella on backing vocals.

Mike LePond took care of bass, rhythm guitar, wrote all the music and lyrics and produced the album. He worked on it for 2 years. It would fall into the Power Metal genre, Mike said that was what he was going for on this one. In my opinion, MUCH better than his Symphony X bandmate Russell Alan's Adrenaline Mob stuff. I think the album kicks ass, it's been getting great reviews, I'm VERY happy for Mike as he, Alan Tecchio and Metal Mike are all good friends of mine.

Check out this promo video by Mike explaining the album, it features some sound clips and is just over 11 mins. long.

This is the entire first track of the album, my favorite tune on it! http://youtu.be/_99pzdQ8vX0

Here's the facebook page for the band: https://www.facebook.com/mikelepondssilentassassins

Pardon my shameless self promotion here but my band Ichabod has just released our 6th album 'Merrimack': Merrimack is a tribute to the Merrimack River and the land it flows through. Like its long, winding path and history, this project has had a long and winding path to get to this culmination. This project has survived changes in lineup, the publishing of three other Ichabod albums during its progression, and delays too numerous to mention.

The end result? A powerhouse of rock, heavy and hard charging then slower and winding, a tribute to the temperament of the quintessential New England river journeying toward the open sea.

This album is meant to be listened to as one whole - as a journey - and we hope you will make time to share this journey with us.

Suggested individual tracks: 2 Brothers Rock, Squall, Child Of The Bar, The Ballad Of Hannah Dustin

The band has been compared to a diverse range of bands including: Neurosis, Eyehategot, The Doors, Alice In Chains, Wishbone Ash, Foo Fighters, Weedeater, & more.

Anathema was my album of the year until the greatness of Mostly Autumn's Dressed In Voices took over that spot. I think you should give it a listen but keep in mind that it's a concept album so listening to a sample here & there just won't do. Oh, & it's not metal.

Jen, I really like that Panic Room album & I'm going to order it on payday plus check out some of their back catalog to see if I'll be ordering more than one release by them. Thanks for the heads up! ;)

If you are into Pat Benatar & Heart you might like this:

You might also enjoy the progressive metal of Collibus, the female singer is ridiculously good.

I've had that album since February. :) If you are a fan you should look into the live Let Us Burn release which I believe you can get in a variety of editions but the one I have is 2cd/Dvd. There are 2 concerts on them, one is from the Elements tour from 2012 with a symphony orchestra & choir celebrating 15 years as a recording band & the other is from the Hydra tour this year which is stripped down to just the band.

Yeah it's a great one. I've been a fan of pretty much anything Tulus/Khold/Sarke for years. Love 'em.

Even though their debut was released in 2013 and was fucking fantastic, these guys have managed to follow up a mere year later with this magnificent opus. Highly recommended to anyone who digs Akercocke or has heard the last record. Style is a bm-prog-dm hybrid.

This one might just be top of the year for me. It's impressive.

KVLT FOLKS

I present GNARCAVE. A Richmond based, probably one-off, black metal project. One of the guitarists is a friend of mine. By day he plays pretty, lady-swooning classical guitar. By night, this comes out...sometimes.

My favorite alder album far. Shit I love this record
Edit: Ha, this is where my post went. I looked in the Parallels thread this morning and could have sworn I posted this at the end of the night last night after many beers and dark rum.
