Australia could lose yet another Prime Minister to party room revolt as Turnbull is almost out the door (for the second time, first time as PM). http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-22/l ... 2/10150662

And the guy challenging him, Immigration turned Home Affairs minister has questions of basic eligibility for Parliament come to light this week due to conflict of interest laws that may ultimately prevent him even sitting let alone running the country. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-08-22/s ... n/10153072

Rudd was dumped by Gillard in 2010.
Gillard was dumped by Rudd in 2013.
Abbott was dumped by Turnbull in 2015.
Turnbull likely to be dumped by Dutton or other Abbott clone in 2018.

Election cycles are 3 years here and these parties can't even keep a fucking leader during those 3 years. Not to mention Turnbull was party leader 2008-09 when Abbott dumped him in that job only for Turnbull to come back and get Abbott as a sitting PM (and over the same fucking thing 10 years later, energy & climate policy).

It's fucking ridiculous. :byhatw:

The one time the US should have deployed all that military force that keep stored up, and they blew it. Too late to dislodge them now - you'd have to send all of China's navy to the bottom of the sea. The "pivot to Asia" never happened, they were too busy dicking around in eastern Europe and the Middle East (as usual). China, and China's unfortunate neighbours, saw this and the implications were all too clear.

Of course. The Chinese are like people at a bankruptcy auction. Wait till the others fail, then move in and take it all on the cheap - clever.

It's bloody hilarious, really. Like the Down Under version of the late Roman Empire.

Of all those you listed, I think only Gillard had any merit. Sad to see people waxing nostalgic about the barf-worthy days of John Howard.

Gillard has been, without a doubt, the best PM since I moved here. A GFC, minority government and her own party taking shots at her from the backbench plus an opposition full of blatant sexism yet she lead the most productive and effective governments the country has seen ever since with major legislation wins and a huge number of laws passed. She destroys everyone who came after.

Not it's Julie Bishop (fought against asbestos victims as a lawyer, saying claims shouldn't be fast tracked just because they were dying), Scott Morrison (original Immigration Minister of current policy & self-righteous Christian), and Peter Dutton (currently in charge of Immigration, blatant racist, also self-serving Christian).

There is no win. The next 6 hours are going to be huge. BIll Shorten finally got the election win he most likely wouldn't have had otherwise at the next election so he's delighted.

In less than 2.5 minutes, this sums it up brilliantly. https://twitter.com/JoshButler/status/1 ... 97/video/1

Dyer: U.S., Turkey wild cards in al-Qaida’s last stand

https://lfpress.com/opinion/columnists/ ... last-stand

Quote:
“Idlib province is the largest al-Qaida safe haven since 9/11,” said Brett McGurk, special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS, so you wouldn’t think the United States would object to the Syrian government reconquering it, especially since U.S. forces in Syria have no way of reaching Idlib, in the country’s northwestern corner, and neither do America’s Kurdish allies.

But you might be wrong about the U.S. stance, because the Syrian regime’s troops attacking Idlib would have Russian bombers helping them. Turkey might also object, as President Recep Tayyib Erdogan was surreptitiously helping the al-Qaida rebels in Syria earlier in the war and already has posted Turkish troops inside Idlib province to protect them.

We’re going to find out which way Turkey and the U.S. jump quite soon, because Idlib is next on the list. During the past two years Bashar al-Assad’s regime has recaptured first the rebel-held part of Aleppo, Syria’s biggest city, then the eastern outskirts of Damascus, the capital, and most recently the areas down south near Israel and Jordan where the rebellion began. Idlib is next.

It has to be Idlib, because that’s where all the jihadi fighters who surrendered after those other defeats were sent. The influx of Islamist fighters and their families has virtually doubled the province’s population to two million in the past two years. Assad will want to finish the job while the going is still good – that is, while the Russian air force is still in Syria – so the offensive will probably start next month.

It will require intense bombing, as the Syrian army is short of ground troops, and there are bound to be anguished international protests about civilian casualties in the crowded province. That would provide an excuse for either Washington or Ankara if they want to intervene and stop the attack.

But do they?

Erdogan would have to take a positive decision to pull the Turkish troops out of Idlib, which would mean admitting it was a mistake to put them there in the first place. He hates to be embarrassed, and he already is having to eat a good deal of humble pie in the financial crisis that is crippling the Turkish economy at home.

He also has had to change his line once already and accept that Assad will survive as Syria’s dictator, so it’s kind of hard for Erdogan to argue now that Syria cannot be allowed to take Idlib back.

Logically, he should not be getting involved in a foreign war when the Turkish currency is in a nose-dive, he himself is in a shouting match with Donald Trump, and his newfound Russian friends are pressing him hard to accept the inevitable in Idlib. But he is erratic, emotional and over-confident, so he might just dig in his heels.

As for Trump’s decision on Idlib, national interest decrees he should sit back and let it happen. What’s not to love about an event that destroys al-Qaida’s only territorial base in the Middle East at no cost in American money or lives?

But if Trump doesn’t intervene, America’s hard right will complain he is allowing a further expansion of Russian power in the Middle East, while his Israeli allies will protest again at the use of “Iranian troops” (really mostly Iraqi, Afghan and Syrian mercenaries paid by Iran) in the battle. But Trump, too, is erratic, emotional and over-confident.

So nobody knows what will happen.

Turkey is likely to let the Russians finish things up in the region and make a deal with the Assad government to reduce Kurdish influence in the region. This is especially likely given recent close ties with the Kremlin. The US however... that is truly an enigma.

In fact, the US may have a plan for Idlib and it looks like this:

https://www.rt.com/news/436933-us-fake-attack-syria/

Quote:
US plans to use fake chemical weapons attack to strike Syria – Russian MoD

The US may have plans to use a fake chemical attack in Syria to hit government forces with airstrikes, the Russian Defense Ministry has said. Washington is already building up strike capability in the Middle East, it said.

The warning comes a day after the Russian military said it had information about a looming provocation in Syria’s Idlib governorate, which would involve a staged chemical weapons attack. The US earlier warned it would respond to a chemical weapons attack by Syrian government forces with retaliatory strikes, which would be stronger than those conducted by the US, the UK and France in April.

In a statement published on Monday, the Russian MoD said it noted the deployment to the Mediterranean last weekend of the missile destroyer USS Ross carrying 28 Tomahawk cruise missiles on board. It came after a similar move of the USS The Sullivans to the Persian Gulf and the rebasing of a B-1B Lancer strategic bomber to an air base in Qatar. The Russian ministry said the “preparations are the latest evidence of the US intention to use the” expected provocation.

The statement reiterated that the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham militant group, previously known as Al-Nusra Front, was preparing a staged chlorine attack in a city in Idlib. It alleged that a group of jihadists, trained in the handling of chemical weapons by the British private military contractor Olive Group, has already arrived in Jisr al-Shughur. The group will “stage decontamination of victims of a staged chemical weapons attack posing as members of the notorious White Helmets group,” the ministry claimed.

“The implementation of this provocation, which is being conducted with the assistance of the British intelligence services, is meant to serve as the latest pretext for the US, Britain and France to deliver a missile strike against state and economic facilities in Syria,” said General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry.

On August 22, US National Security Advisor John Bolton stated that “if the Syrian regime uses chemical weapons, we will respond very strongly and they really ought to think about this a long time.”

In April, a reported chlorine attack in Syria’s Eastern Ghouta neighborhood served as justification for the US, UK, and France to attack what they claimed to be sites involved in a clandestine Syrian chemical weapons program. The missile attacks came just as a team of international inspectors was set to arrive at the scene to collect evidence of the supposed attack.

Later, residents of the area told journalists that the footage of the treatment of the alleged victims of the attack was filmed by the White Helmets group after they orchestrated a panic at a local hospital. The patients there were not poisoned by chlorine, local medics said. The footage was presented by the mainstream media as proof that an attack took place.

Saudi, Yemeni and UAE governments accused of war crimes in Yemen by UN experts

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/saudi-uni ... -1.4801407

Quote:
Three experts working for the UN's top human rights body say the governments of Yemen, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia may have been responsible for war crimes including rape, torture, disappearances and "deprivation of the right to life" during three and a half years of escalated fighting against rebels in Yemen.

In their first report for the Human Rights Council, the experts also point to possible crimes by rebel Shia militia in Yemen, which has been fighting the Saudi-led coalition and Yemen's government since March 2015.

The experts have also chronicled the damages from coalition air strikes, the single most lethal force in the fighting, over the last year.

Quote:
"[We have] reasonable grounds to believe that the governments of Yemen, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are responsible for human rights violations," the report said. It cited violations including unlawful deprivation of the right to life, arbitrary detention, rape, torture, enforced disappearances and child recruitment.

Quote:
Even getting the expert probe up and running was an accomplishment for the UN-backed Human Rights Council, which passed a resolution creating the team last September. Largely due to the objections of Saudi Arabia and its allies, the council failed several times to authorize more intrusive investigation into possible war crimes in Yemen. The 47-member body only last fall reached a compromise to bring in the experts.

The Catholic church in Australia will not put the law above cardinal law. They will not break the seal of confessional to report child abuse, despite decades of abuse spanning generations and a royal commission recommendation that they do.

People always piss on about Sharia law and how it will take over the west, but seem oblivious or completely ignorant to the fact cardinal law has already done this and continues to do so today despite rampant and blatant sexual abuse uncovered globally.

It's beyond time to stop protecting the church, to end cardinal law as an exception to the law of the land, and put these feral cunts where they belong.

Fuck that cult.

I don't know how those people look at themselves in the mirror every day. Catholicism is a pestilence that should have been wiped out decades ago. Here's hoping their churches all burn.

The Catholic church is absolutely reprehensible. I wish more members of the church would demand they clean up their act or walk away en masse.
