Netanyahu should be charged with bribery according to Israeli police, now it's up to the attorney general to decide. Must just be some more anti-semetic pro-palestinian bias or something... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-14/b ... es/9444634

The fact that you cannot establish the evidence of guilt does not mean that you have established the innocence of the athletes,” Reeb said in an exclusive interview with RT.

So now one has to establish innocence? The fuck?

It's understandable, considering the nature of the case.

Russia's government decided to tamper with the entire testing process, conducting what was basically a covert intelligence operation to allow their athletes who were cheaters to get away with it. As a result, it is not possible to know which athletes were clean all along and which weren't - the testing itself proved untrustworthy. That means everyone is a suspect - unless you can prove the tests the innocent athletes took were actually negative. This is harder than it sounds, since in a lot of cases, the actual samples taken from athletes were destroyed or what is left cannot be verified as actually being theirs.

It is worse than if there were no tests taken at all. For some of these innocent athletes, it will never be confirmable that they were clean, because they were part of a tainted testing system. Only they know that they are clean, and as you know a guilty person will says the same things as an innocent one.

The Russian government may be portrayed as too much of a bogeyman in many respects, but in doing this, for short term gain they fucked over their whole athletic community in the long term. An entire generation of coaches and athletes are now untrustworthy, because their government decided to protect the guilty ones instead of just letting the guilty ones get punished. Believe me, the clean Russian athletes wish their dirty comrades had been left to fend for themselves.

You can ask yourself why their government decided to do it - probably a combination of pressure to succeed at Sochi and a desire not to have the Americans sneering at them as always (i.e. world politics). They might be absolutely right that the American athletes are just as prone to doping and the US government are hypocritical about their own athletic history of it - but at the same time, the CIA or FBI is not helping US dopers to not get caught. If they were, the US should face just as much a widespread ban as Russia has faced.

Sports hijacked by politics yet again - and probably by money as well.
Nevertheless, it should not be a matter that any national security agency needs to get involved in at all. If they are involved, it should be to help catch cheaters, not protect them at the expense of everyone else.

I was going to post this too, but I got sidetracked with that doping issue.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/netanyahu-indictment-police-corruption-bribery-1.4533468

The charges may go through, but conviction is another matter. Even if he is convicted, if he allows the courts to convict him, I'm convinced he will never be punished.

Israelis have known this guy is a crooked snake since before his first stint as PM. They have tolerated every bad thing about him, corruption included. All he has to do to crank up the national security threat rhetoric and people fall into line. Do you think the Israeli government decision to bomb "Iranian" targets in Syria is not related to this? The closer he gets to being convicted and removed, the more he will try to start an actual war, because Israel being at war is the only thing that can save him from prison.

Former ISIS fighter from Russia speaks about his experiences.

Quote:
There was little communication among the people at the compound. No one tried to show discontent or ask questions, as anyone who caused trouble usually just disappeared.

“I didn’t see anyone beaten or killed, but I learned that if a person was taken away no one ever saw him again,” Balakshin said. He added that leaving the area alive was “impossible” as those caught escaping were “shot or imprisoned.”

Quote:
“While I was lying in the hospital, people came up to me to try to convince me to become a suicide bomber. They said that I had no leg anyway, what else could I do?” He added that he couldn’t refuse directly so as not to cause suspicion.

Re: what VS said about Netanyahu using war to keep power... it might not be so easy.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/12/opin ... g-war.html

Quote:
The response to the downing of the Israeli jet was intended to be a lot more violent. Israel has long maintained contingency plans for a huge offensive operation in Syria. On Saturday, the generals took them out of the drawer. But the Iranians and the Syrians, along with their Lebanese ally Hezbollah, realized that something like that was in the offing, and let it be known that they would not let it happen without responding. The Israelis heard this, but were not deterred. The Israel Defense Forces went on to a war footing.

It soon became clear, though, who is calling the shots. The Israeli bombardments of the air base had been dangerously close to Russian forces. A furious phone call on Saturday morning from President Vladimir Putin of Russia was enough to make Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel cancel the plans.

Quote:
When Russian forces entered Syria in 2015 and it became clear that the United States would not take real measures to counter Mr. Putin’s moves, Mr. Netanyahu managed to set up a secret communications channel between himself and the Russian president, according to my sources in Israeli intelligence, as well as an encrypted phone line for communication between Israel and the Russian military and intelligence in order to prevent clashes between Israeli and Russian forces in Syria.

But that limited amount of tactical coordination hasn’t led Russia to understand Israel’s strategic needs. As an Assad victory approaches, Israel has been asking Russia to guarantee that the Iranians will leave Syria once the war is over. Those requests have been met with indifference in Moscow. Russia wants to build a secure foothold in the Middle East and its policy requires it to maintain good relations with Iran.

How UK spies hacked an ally and got away with it:

https://theintercept.com/2018/02/17/gch ... rope-hack/

Quote:
The Belgacom breach sparked outrage in Europe’s political institutions and made global headlines. But Belgium’s effort to identify the spies responsible and hold them accountable faced roadblocks at almost every turn. Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency, refused to assist. Prosecutors overseeing the case feared triggering a major diplomatic dispute and were reluctant to pursue it aggressively. Meanwhile, British spies tried to destroy the evidence.

Quote:
“We wanted to show that as a small country, we would not be bullied,” said a source close to the investigation. “But we were fighting against two big cyberarmies from the U.K. and the U.S. We knew we could never win this.”

Five dead in Muslim terrorist attack on Church in Dagestan, Russia

“An unknown man opened fire with a hunting rifle in Kizlyar, fatally wounding four women,” the regional internal affairs ministry said in a statement. A fifth woman died of her injuries in hospital, the health ministry spokeswoman Zalina Mourtazalieva told Tass news agency.

The attacker was “eliminated” by police fire, the regional internal affairs ministry added

Questions remain in my mind as to whether or not he was targeting women only.

Yeah, the whole Chechnya / Caucasus thing never really ended. Just went from full boil to simmer.

A lot of jihadis left to fight in Syria and Iraq, and now the survivors are coming back, so expect more.

Tragic story. Even more so because American-backed "Syrian Democratic Forces" have been using these people as human shields for years.

https://www.rt.com/news/419407-germany- ... two-wives/

Quote:
A documentary about a Syrian refugee in Germany, who happily lives on state handouts with his two wives and six kids, has angered many in the country where polygamy is against the law.

Quote:
The authorities weren’t even flustered by the fact that the Syrian married his second wife, Lina, when she was just 13 years old, below Germany’s age of consent. His first wife, Betool, was 14 at the time of the marriage.

Ahmad also has a third wife in Syria, but he told Spiegel journalists jokingly that the house needed to be bigger for her to come as well. As for the man’s plans for the future, he’s aiming for four wives and ten children.

Lina and Betool said that they were happy to share one husband and that it was “God’s will” for things to be that way. As a devout Muslim, Ahmad himself also sees no problem with having several wives as it’s in line with Sharia law, which he follows.

The wives reside in separate rooms on the second floor and the man said he makes sure there’s no dispute between them. The family’s bedroom is located on the first floor, with Ahmad specifying that he only sleeps with one wife at a time there.

Ahmad’s family live in social housing and the state provides them with an income.

“There’s support here. They give us social benefits, they give us this house,” Ahmad said, adding that Germany was his desired destination when he left his war-torn home country.

Amnesty International slams victim blaming.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/ ... ernational

Quote:
“The spectres of hatred and fear now loom large in world affairs, and we have few governments standing up for human rights in these disturbing times. Instead, leaders such as (Egyptian president) al-Sisi, (Philippines president) Duterte, (Venezuelan president) Maduro, Putin, Trump, and (Chinese president) Xi are callously undermining the rights of millions,” Amnesty International’s secretary-general Salil Shetty said.

“We saw the ultimate consequence of a society encouraged to hate, scapegoat and fear minorities laid bare in the horrific military campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya people in Myanmar.

“The feeble response to crimes against humanity and war crimes from Myanmar to Syria and Yemen underscored the lack of leadership on human rights. Governments are shamelessly turning the clock back on decades of hard-won protections.”
