I think it's fucking awful, but I also love Heartwork, so I don't know where I stand with the guy.

Yeah but you're not even allowed to discuss such things, didn't you get the memo? Even though DaTroof thinks the first album was okay.

Symphonies is by far my favorite. It's also totally superior to Altars. :)

This thread is now dedicated to DaTroof. It's what you all wanted. Admit it :)

I didn't like Reek back in the day, it was just too much of a mess for me to digest. I enjoy it now, got on board with it in the mid 90's actually, just didn't take to it at first. Anyway, after Reek I kind of liked all three albums that followed about the same, and by that I mean I loved them. I appreciated that the band was able to make three very different albums that all really ripped. Swansong? It's better than it's reputation but it was a pretty big let down after a great run. That's the one that I never go back to, and I threw that fucking Blackstar album out the car window 15 minutes after I bought it. Fucking good for nothing road Frisbee.

Heartwork is a fuckin monster of an album. I'm more of what you'd call a 'casual' fan of the other albums in their discography, but I've worn this one out over the years. It's got riffs, hooks, melodies, awesome production by Colin Richardson...they got it right, with this album.

Much appreciation here. :m:

I don't think Swansong's a bad album, just a bad Carcass album.

Surgical Steel more than made up for it though.

The first time I heard Reek I thought it was a laughable piece of crap. I understood nothing of grind and had no idea what was going on. I just thought, "why are the songs so short?"

Yeah, my refrence points at the time were early Barney era Napalm and World Downfall, but I had also heard Symphonies first qnd liked it. When I heard Reek i just thought that it was a sloppy mess. Didn't really understand the diffrence between grindcore and death metal at that very early point either, so I was also comparing it to things like Death and Entombed.

I remember getting Heartwork, Black Sabbath Vol.4 and Soundgarden - Superunknown all on the same day in high school. I was set for tunes all summer. You don't really see hauls like that anymore.
