Somewhat random but related, do folks really not typically know the lyrics to most (if not all) songs by their favorite bands? Not like recite on the spot fashion but in an able to sing along to the whole thing kind of way.

This is obviously way easier with clean vocal groups, I'm just kinda surprised sometimes that folks could listen to something enough to warrant calling it their favorite yet not know any of the lyrics.

Or maybe I'm just some idiot lyric remembering savant. :?

Trve or false - singing along to songs at shows?

I know Manowar lyrics and Maiden lyrics and sometimes, not all the time I sing them at shows.

This board is a little different than the average person. Folks here care a lot about music, and enjoy discussing it. I think most of society doesn't really enjoy learning, or doing research. Even here, some participants just like to hear music they enjoy. But some of us have the Historian "bug." Personally, I love looking up the back stories of how albums were made, learning what this or that song is about, figuring out who the people thanked in the liner notes are, etc. It enhances my enjoyment of my favorite albums, even while it probably sounds like torture to other people

Porn too? I guess I'm a part time porn an historian. Like I drove by Caballero and Cal Vista studios when I was in the Valley. And I know shit like who did the soundtrack for all the Dark Bros. movies and where Christy Canyon went to High School and shit. I'm motherfucking History buff.

I remember most of the lyrics to tons of albums from the 80's and 90's. Back than the collection was still growing, so things were always in a heavier rotation. This is mainly true for thrash, doom and trad/power metal that I liked at the time. Death and black metal will depend a little bit on how much I loved a band, and how clear the singers vocals are. Suffocation was one of my favorite bands in the 90's, but you can't understand Frank all that well, and even though I listened a ton I probably only know a quarter of the actual lyrics. Bolt Thrower? I know them all from War Master through ...For Victory. Some of these lyrics are so ingrained in my head that I can spin an album that I have listened to maybe twice in the last decade and still find myself knowing almost every word. Now there is more stuff and less time, so it's a rare band that gets enough attention for me to remember the lyrics well enough that I could actually sing along. Slough Feg and Primordial would be two that I got into after the 90's where I know most of the lyrics. There are a few others too, but I have to really love a band to devote that much time to them with so much stuff to enjoy.

When it comes to death metal and extreme metal, no I do not remember most of the lyrics. Just depends though I guess. Some are far easier to decipher when reading and I don't sit around reading lyrics like I used to. Another part of what makes Mgla so great is I think his vocals are pretty clear and easy to decipher for black metal.

Favourite non-metal stuff? Yeah I usually can know/remember many of the lyrics for sure after repeated listens over the years.

I used to be a bit of a porn historian too. I knew some people in the industry and got to meet some of them in Chatsworth and at the Adult Expo in Vegas. The female director Mason was really cool in person, I got to see her without the burka she would wear in public (she was a child actor on a well-known TV show, so she kept her identity secret).

The bands I was really into in middle and high school, definitely. I studied the shit out of them, or as much as was possible before the internet. When I was able to accumulate music in mass quantities was when that faded away.

I'd park the shit out of Blair. The SOC chicks will go Greaser from time to time. You just have to be that one dude at the right time. Remember in HS when you were the last man standing at the house party? That's when little Brittany ( the one who wouldn't give your non jock ass the time of day) couldn't get enough of your heathen ass. Good times.

I Googied Mason porn director and it put me to some porn forum that mentions Full House. Of course everything you read on a Porn forum is right, so it must be true.
