People seem surprised by the Final. I don't know why personally.

The tournament has ended! See the bracket for the final results!
https://challonge.com/braveboard1990

Most votes in a single bracket:
Skyclad – The Prince of the Poverty Line vs. Devin Townsend/Biomech – Ocean Machine – 71 votes

Biggest landslide win:
Immortal – At the Heart of Winter vs. Vital Remains – Forever Underground (47-3, with Vital Remains only getting 3% of the vote)

Number of wins by one vote: 3
Skyclad – The Prince of the Poverty Line vs. Devin Townsend/Biomech – Ocean Machine (36-35)
Dissection – Storm of the Light’s Bane vs. Immortal – At the Heart of Winter (24-23)
Nevermore – Dreaming Neon Black vs. Entombed – Left Hand Path (27-28)

It’s interesting to see that both finalists almost lost to two very different albums as well.

Lowest rated album from Metal Archives in the bracket:
Woods of Ypres – IV: The Green Album (59%)

Upsets that surprised me:
Both Emperor albums beat in the semi-finals
Our first week of polling where Skyclad vs. Devin Townsend went into overtime for three days
Anathema making it as far as they did
Agalloch getting knocked out in round two
Cynic and Power Trip getting knocked out in the first round

Total number of votes of the finalists:
Dissection – Storm of the Light’s Bane – 221
Entombed – Left Hand Path – 199

Who I voted for against the finalists:
I voted for Entombed against Enslaved, Nevermore, and Emperor.
I voted against Dissection the whole way through but voted for them against Entombed.

Final Thoughts:
It’s been a wild nine months, but we’ve finally found our winner. 128 bands entered and only one was the victor. Yet every week felt like another win for us when we’d have albums put up against the other that were absolutely bizarre: Emperor vs. Rage Against the Machine, Type-O Negative vs. Nile, Iced Earth vs. Satyricon - just to name a few.

The greatest aspect to this bracket, in my opinion, was to get everyone listening to albums they may not have heard before. Why would someone who has listened to Arch Enemy have listened to Anathema? How would Kyuss fans feel about Dissection? Can someone who enjoys Opeth also appreciate Gridlink? Personally this bracket got me listening to different albums I hadn’t heard before and quite frankly, that was some of the biggest excitement that came from this event.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this event – either by submitting albums to me way back in January or simply by voting in these polls – your participation mattered.

Until next time, my friends!

if feel like doing more stats, i'd be curious to see what the total # of votes each band got throughout the tournament was

Guess I'm gonna have to see what all the hubbub is about this Dissection group.

Also, OP is a hero.

Even though Left Hand Path is a killer album I can see why Dissection won in the end. It's a monster of an album. Looks like I came to this party late but count me in on the next one OP!

.....more like about 30-40....and I didn't like many of them...but at least I gave them a go. Certainly, found a few interesting things that I may pick up eventually, so overall a win in my books. I certainly enjoyed the process, and had fun....and ultimately that's the point isn't it.
