Shelob's Lair - Nightfall in Heaven

A proper release of this band's only work, their 2001 demo. The guy who runs Northern Silence was part of the group, very decent German Black Metal :abbath:

With this and the new Mass Infection dropping the same day, Christmas is coming early for me this year.

Always been a sucker for killer AOR. Great melodies, vocals, hooks. Don't give a fuck, this shit is solid as hell. Steve Overland's (FM) vox are perfect.

That single is pretty good, well-produced and the guitar tone is ace.

@Voodoo Dust, this album is fucking great. Finally sat down with the whole thing. I know AOR isn't everyone's thing, but if you like bands like Night Ranger you will love this.

Yeah, man it's fucking choice. Steve Overland's vox are top notch. Loved him so much that I checked out his other band, FM. New album came out this year. It's also a killer effort.

New album from this Finnish band. To me this is the best thing they did since Whore of Bethlehem. Less dense and foggy, it has a very cool primitive thrash approach to it that I like. It flirts with early Bathory and such here and there, but all channelled through their typical death/black sound. What I think makes this one a winner is that they let the stuff breathe more than a lot of bands doing this occult caveman shit, so the riffs have place to shine. First Archgoat in a long time where once it ends I feel like putting it again.

Whole album here:
https://archgoat666.bandcamp.com/album/ ... rian-crown

I was just reading about Archgoat in The Devil's Cradle, and then watched the interview/beer sampling with Ritual Butcherer on the Rauta YT channel (Ritual Butcherer became a fan of craft beers after living for a while in the USA).

I'm now listening to The Luciferian Crown, my first exposure to Archgoat, and I like it. "Occult caveman shit" is a good description

Sulphur Aeon said they'll announce their new album soon on Facebook.

I think the biggest pressure is on the cover art.

Found the new Archgoat a little polished for my liking. I probably should give it another listen. I haven't bought an archgoat album since whore of bethlehem, so maybe I'm just overreacting to a natural transition in their sound.

Going to listen to the album soon too. Archgoat pummels with nary a misstep. Also destroy live. One of the best in the style since it's beginning.

Uada - Cult of a Dying Sun

Image

Melodic Black Metal from the US. Reminds me of early Swedish BM meets Mgła with a unique vocal approach.

I thought that their first album was ok/good, but the new one is way way better. Excellent stuff, even if it's a little prettier than I prefer my black metal to sound.

This talk about the new Sargeist made me got up my lazy ass and decide to post about this album.

PHLEGEIN - Devotion
Image

It's Finnish Black Metal, yes, as it does share some sound and aesthetic with the usual suspects from there, Baptism, Horna, Sargeist, but at the same time it is also swedish in its approach - Armagedda and Craft comes to mind.

Actually at times it sounds to me like the Album Craft should have released after Fuck The Universe. It sure is more interesting (for me at least) than the album Craft released this year (not that this one is bad though).

It's on Northen Heritage so you know it's a no-frills affair. Rocking riffs, nasty vocals, sparingly-used keys (respects the official raw black metal guide to proper keyboard integration vol. 1.0) and good production, this one is serious business. :)

I'm at work with YouTube blocked so just go search it there can't post a link.
