I really need to get around to giving him a listen. I haven't been in much of a country mood in the last little while, though, so I'm trying to pick my spots as to when I try his music out.

Jethro Tull's Heavy Horses just clicked with me this morning in the car on my way to work. What a fucking genius Ian Anderson is. Love these acoustics parts and melodies.. truly one of his best work.

He's superb and more than just country. Soulful as fuck. A bit bluesy. Legit as fuck. Traveller is brilliant. 10/10 album front to back excellent. Take an hour and listen to Traveller at work or something.

This pretty much echoes how I feel about Brian Fallon. Been addicted to his solo music, Horrible Crowes and Gaslight Anthem for 10 years now.

He's so blues enhanced Ex that you actually forget he is country. The dude is so versatile. I would love for him to try some rock. He could do it. His voice is just awesome.

Oh, and the Co-Worker that burned the CDs for me, he mentioned other artists too.

Cody Jinks
Whitey Morgan
Steeldrivers

He told me that if I am going to set my "country bar" with Stapleton, then I am not going to like much else.

He just said "Jay, that is ridiculously high bar for any other artist to achieve. I am loving the fact that you are even listening to country, but Stapleton is just the cream of the crop."

Glad you're into it! That makes a few members here now. :)

Was it because of the Lost in Vegas video?

Yep, when I heard Tennessee Whiskey, I just said this dude is god damn good. Then, they played I Was Wrong, and it totally FLOORED me.

Oh yeah, I'll listen to Wheeler Walker Jr. too, but that is just for the comedy effect. :)

If you like those two tracks, I'm sure you will or do love Sometimes I Cry.

Fuck, honestly Traveller is so great I'm not sure he'll ever top it but that's fine because is that's good.

Has anyone actually listened to King Dude? I keep seeing people post the album on Instagram. The name is terrible but Van rarely if ever steers you wrong.

Yeah, the name is dumb, but the music is great. I could see you liking his stuff. Really liked his most recent album:

King Dude - Sex
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut4fTPU79a4

He also did a split with Urfaust if that helps you. Kiss fans are allergic to him!

Edit, that's not his most recent album, he apparently has a new one out!

Besides Jinks you really should check out the album
"Fifteen Years in a Ten Year Town" by Ward Davis.

Interesting cover of the Waylon Jennings song “Waymores Blues”
by Tennessee Jet (with some vocals by Cody Jinks).

the new Billy Gibbons album came out today.

Absolutely excellent stuff. It makes me want to roll a blunt and sit outside all day smoking. Well... moreso.

Not my thing, but I can see why he's gathering attention. He's clearly influenced by the usual suspects like Sisters of Mercy, Nick Cave, Type O, Joy Division, Tom Waits, etc. So there's no doubt he's pushing the right buttons for goth rock fans, but I think he's really lacking in the songwriting department. There's some sort of hollowness in what he does that is really putting me off. I find his voice to be soulless and undamaged, which makes his coolness not as natural as the artists he's channeling imo. It's just not connecting with me at all.

The new album is easily his most catchy yet and this time he went for a mostly slick production, at least compared to 'Sex'. Some songs even made me think of what would happen if a band like The National did a goth rock album or something. I'll leave it to the fans to decide whether it's a good thing or not, but my opinion of him has stayed the same.

But hey, that's just my opinion. Maybe you'll like it.
