Anyone get this yet? I'm probably in the minority for liking Carnival Is Forever and Blood Mantra...this continues on the same super-groove path with a few tunes mixed in there that really let it rip. Solid album. Looking forward to seeing them in Sept.

This band just doesn't carry the same weight since the accident.

Vitek was the fucking man. RIP

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I bought Carnival Is Forever and Blood Mantra. Have barely listened to either of them. Not going to bother with this new one, unless I see some mind blowing reviews of it somewhere, that make me reconsider.

Loved everything up to and including The Negation. Just recently started to go back and rediscover the other albums. Fucking really surprised how much I LOVE the shit I've heard thus far.

Will be picking up the new album for sure.

Sure, they're not the same after the accident, but I feel like they've done a helluva job respecting where they (Vogg) came from. Still technical, but they way I like it....with a purpose.

Didn't care for the one right after the accident, but Blood Mantra was great. I've got this downloaded and if it's good I'll pick it up.

Unfortunately this band has turned to total shit since that bus accident. Not gonna waste my time.

Was absolutely floored by The Negation.

Haven't been able to get into anything since that album.

Will give this a shot but am dubious.

The first three rule really hard. I couldn't stomach carnival (the vocals were distractingly awful).

I never heard Blood Mantra or this one, but if Voodoo likes it I will check it out.

He is my leader.

I didn't care much for Carnival is Forever, but I enjoyed Blood Mantra. I fucking love Anticult. It's by far their best release since Organic Hallucinosis, and it's not even close. If the last two records were Decapitated finding their footing again, Anticult is them firing on all cylinders. I don't know that anybody who found nothing enjoyable about the last two records will enjoy it, but I'm pretty blown away by how strong it is.

One of the few techy bands I dig. But I only know Winds and Nihility. Those albums are quite rad.

These guys, Spawn of Possession, and Psycroptic all had a good album at least.

You can still check out Organic Hallucinosis, after that they went to shit. Some of their newer stuff actually sounds like they tried to be Pantera......

It sounds like a contemporary version of Pantera's Far Beyond Driven.

I was questioning briefly whether or not I thought that was a good thing.

Then, I heard the new Lock Up album, and completely forgot about Anticult. Which pretty much answered the question previously occupying my mind.

In summary, listen to the new Lock Up.

Checked out the song Never. First song, I've heard in years from this band. Yeah, no thanks.

It's not bad per se, it's just too different from what I remember Decapitated sounding like...

I don't see the comparison between the two at all, save for maybe some similarities in the production. Regardless, my whole reason to reply is to second your promotion of the new Lock Up. That record is a monster, and yes, a touch better than Anticult :m:

I wasn't comparing the two. The one caused me to forget the other due to its superiority.

I was listening to Anticult last night. Nothing great, nothing exceptionally bad either. It's an average album that will get a few more spins out of me, but I don't see myself revisiting it much beyond that. I think that Decapitated is capable of writing a much more interesting album (I say that without reference to their stylistic choices; I think that they could write a better album even if playing in their current style).

Lock Up on the other hand. Woah. Kevin Sharp sounds like maniac, in all the right ways. Easily the most balanced album that the band has written, too. I did not expect to hear the band firing on all cylinders.

I just realized I wasn't clear in my post. I meant between Anticult and Far Beyond Driven, not Anticult and Lock Up. The Lock Up thing was just an aside.

There's no Pantera in their sound. It's better defined as Meshuggah in 4/4.

I remember back when the Destroy Erase Improve advance promos came out, and the publicist at the time described it to me as Pantera in 7/8. Go figure.

We do agree about Lock Up though. Much better album. Sharp's addition to the roster has put it over the top.

For what it's worth, I don't see any shame in a little Pantera influence. I didn't mean it as an insult. I think that Pantera's influence on contemporary metal is more profound than the credit they are given, in part because that influence is rather indirect and several steps removed at this point. Some of the bands which derived influence from Pantera have pushed those various strands of the Pantera DNA in directions that are more interesting than the progenitor.

Notwithstanding that, I still don't find Anticult to be especially good.
