Well that's a pretty stupid comment. So "Shades Of God" and "Icon" aren't doom? Or have you listened to their last few albums?

love both but MDB take this for me. (But I;d take them over most any band, so this is less about PL than it is about MDB's greatness.)

I voted MDB as their discography is so huge and nearly flawless. Love PL as well but they had a long stretch of disappointment.

If I was to take only the early days into account, my vote would go to My Dying Bride. But Paradise Lost have been more interesting to follow in the long run, imo. I haven't been really interested in anything MDB have done after 'A Line of Deathless Kings', while PL did some great stuff in the last ten years. They've always been varying things up a bit, not always to the greatest results, but since 'Symbol of Life' I have been really curious to hear what they would come up with the next time around.

That being said, I don't think they've done anything as good as 'The Angel and the Dark River', but my vote still goes to Paradise Lost.

MDB rules. Only one bad and one boring album in their catalogue. The rest is tits city.

This pretty much sums it up for me. The only MDB album I have zero use for is For Lies I Sire. Everything else has a number of immediately absorbable great songs, plus a few more that take time to digest. Paradise Lost lost their way for enough time that they lost me and became a tough band to believe in their sincerity again. MDB has always known what they are whatever the reception to albums has been, and regardless of trend.

And 34.whatever % Complete is a great album that nobody else of that genre could dare do and get away with. The Whore and Cook tune is easily one of my faves by them. She is the Dark also destroys anything PL ever wrote.

Enemies Of Metal?

Host was really good.it was with Believe In Nothing and Symbol Of Life that they shit the bed. Thankfully they've recovered nicely since.

There are some really good songs on 'Host' and to me it wasn't such a huge departure from what they did on 'One Second'. They always had this Sisters of Mercy/Depeche Mode vibe underneath the doom riffs, they just decided to dig deeper on those influences and try things. I've always loved Nick's clean voice and those records showed how great a singer he can be and that he didn't had to lower his tone all the time. This really helped him gain more versatility on their subsequent albums, where he would alternate between clean/low vocals and growls.

34.788% is a GREAT record. and, I agree, "the Whore" is fantastic. It's as much prog as it is doom. MDB almost never fails.

Feast of Noise summed up my thoughts.

Basically, best album was Angel and the Dark River, but overall, going with PL.

Close, but I took Paradise Lost....just a smidge more relevant to me....to this day, every time I here "True Belief" it gives me chills...."Icon" was a stunning album.

My Dying Bride for being the more consistent band over the years (though their last one didn't really grab me), The first two Paradise Lost records are pretty huge benchmarks for me though.

That was my first exposure as well.....I had to have that album, but around here (Fredericton) it was difficult to find, but an indie shop was able to order it in for me on cassette.

I agree with 100% of this.

I do like how PL has bounced back with the last few. :m:
