Post Re: BraveBoard Top Metal Bands Bracket!
The tournament has ended! See the bracket for the final results!
http://challonge.com/BraveBoardBand

Number of subgenres submitted:
Heavy Metal – 19
Death Metal – 17
Thrash Metal – 10
Progressive Metal – 9
Black Metal – 7
Power Metal – 5
Doom Metal – 5
Stoner Metal – 3
Sludge Metal – 1
Extreme – 1
Industrial – 1
Hardcore – 1

Most votes:
Iron Maiden – 312
Judas Priest – 293

3rd place: (excluding Black Sabbath from Round One)
Black Sabbath: 221 (259 if including Round One)
Motorhead: 197

Round Four saw 68 votes with Megadeth vs. My Dying Bride
Round Three saw 67 votes with Metallica vs. Slayer
Round Three saw 66 votes with Motorhead vs. W.A.S.P.

We had 4309 total votes, making us average 55 votes per poll.

Number of wins by one vote: 5
Vetkor vs. Green Carnation (20 – 19)
Deicide vs. Anathema (33 – 32)
AC/DC vs. Accept (29 – 30)
Mercyful Fate vs. Dio (29 – 30)
Metallica vs. Slayer (34 – 33)

Lowest Voter Turnount:
Crowbar vs. Tristania – 35 (Round Two)
Vektor vs. Green Carnation - 39 (Round One)

Number of Overtime Polls (poll extended an extra day to decide the winner): 2
Deicide vs. Anathema (33 – 32)
AC/DC vs. Accept (29 – 30)

Number of Black Metal bands Rainbow beat out: 3 (Emperor, Immortal, and Celtic Frost)

Biggest Landslide victory: Judas Priest vs. Sabaton (58 – 3)

Unexpected Surprise: Slough Feg making it to the Quarter finals by beating out Electric Wizard, Deicide, and Saxon.

Musicians versus themselves - total votes:
Dio vs. Rainbow – 122 – 115 (153 if incl. Round One)
Mercyful Fate vs. King Diamond – 71 (111 if incl. Round One) - 53
Accept vs. U.D.O. 41 – 20 (Round Two only)
Rainbow vs. Deep Purple 137 – 119 (153 if incl. Round Five)

Upsets that surprised me:
Vektor defeats Green Carnation in Round One (20 – 19)
Vektor defeats The Gathering in Round Two (29 – 27)
Pantera destroys Gorguts in Round Two (39 – 13)
W.A.S.P. beats Nile in Round Two (32 – 20)
Slough Feg crushes Electric Wizard in Round Two (34 – 18)

My thoughts:

I didn’t think this was going to be as exciting as it turned out to be. We had a great turn out for this event and I am happy with how well-received it was. The discussions and debates over some of these absolutely bizarre match-ups were a blast to read every week.

I really appreciated everyone who continued to keep up the excitement by either handing their votes over to a random board member or simply by engaging in discussion. Seeing weeks where people were terrified of the next bracket were always a joy to read as I knew some of us had more vested into some of these brackets than what we may have led on (I’m still bitter about that Deicide vs. Anathema result). I also appreciate everyone for giving me tons of ideas to work on and adjust while making the brackets/polls. I think I’ve got it all sorted out for next time.

We’ll also try not to forget other bands that deserved to be in the poll: Testament, Van Halen, Agalloch, Sodom, King’s X, Destruction, Anthrax, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Queensryche, and tons more were all missed.

Speaking of: there WILL be a next time, just not yet. I currently have a lot of work on my plate and need a bit of a break from dedicating Mondays to doing this (which I think is the best time to get the polls going).

I have been given a few suggestions from some board members on what to do next, but I think I’ll let us all vote on those options before I start another poll.

Outside of that, I really had a lot of fun doing this. I can’t believe it’s over. It’s literally been half of a year to get this thing done. While the next poll may not be as epic as the one we just did, it’s you folks on the BraveBoard that make it worthwhile.

Until next time, my friends!

Thanks for making this happen OP....can't wait to see what you cook up next. Seems like there's been lots of interesting ideas dropped in this thread.

Thanks for your efforts, this contest was a lot of fun.

Especially the early rounds were fun.

I'd like to suggest again that, once this contest is done again, only bands that released their debut post 1990 may be involved. And it should stay Metal, so no Alternative/Grunge/90s Industrial bullshit.

Pretty pretty please?

Thanks OP, more work probably went into putting this on than most of us realise, but it gave me a reason to look forward to Mondays. Rock on :m:

Also, I like the post 1990 debut idea, and I really liked the best metal guitarist idea (I forget who came up with it).

But do take some time off haha, we don't need another poll immediately...

To be fair, everybody knew that this is how it would turn out. The journey was more important than the destination :)

You probably used to feel it's fire, but now it's cold inside.

But...i think the results are different cause of the process
I think that if there was a maiden v priest poll out of nowhere and not a culmination of a tourney it would be closer than it is.

Very good call and plausible. I think we just finished that tournament. You know what? Fuck, I'll just make that thread preemptively right now!

Randy Rhoads should finish high if we were to do a guitarist battle.
