I like both equally, but Salutations wins by a hair because it's more raw :guitar: :abbath:

Don't really know them.

1994-5, they played on a bill with Ozzy, Sepultura, and Danzig. All I remember of Warrior Soul was their singer shouting "I am the Government!" Over and over and over.

I did not care for it.

Seps were great, Danzig was good, Ozzy seemed kinda lost.

Salutations. Great album. Although saying that makes me want to pull out Space Age Playboy's and spin it to make sure I remember that album like i think I do.

Meh! Always seemed like a reformed hair band to me, like if they came along 5-6 years earlier they would’ve looked/sounded like Slaughter or something. Instead they were a 2nd rate GNR with a political bent to be “edgy.”

That album is frighteningly angry. WS as a music band could have been more developed, but when Kory et al were on - watch the fuck out.

Btw, the new album is painful to listen to, but a really fun read of a lyric sheet.

Same probalem with the last one. I think Kory rather be drinking than writing and producing music.

The first three WS albums are some of the best hard rock from the 90's.

Is it just his voice that is bad on the new album?

For the most part. The band behind him is competent, but anonymous

I like the new one. Kory's voice is a bit destroyed, yeah that is true

I had stopped at Chill Pill, this thread got me checking the rest out. I really missed out, Space, Destroy, and Stiff Middle Finger are great. Need to find physical copies for decent price.

Yeah....Chill Pill is too arty for it's own good. Kory has said that they had one more album left in their deal for Geffen and they took the stuff that eventually became Space Age Playboys and kept it and gave Geffen this really experimental release. Oddly enough...in the downtime between releases Kory made a band called Space Age Playboys and released an album called "New Rock Underground" it was decent, but not of the quality of the Warrior Soul releases. Also worth your time is the rarities compilation "Odds & Ends" (called "Fucker" in Europe), some really cool ideas from various time periods in the band's history.

Kory's solo releases are solid as well.....and his stint with Dirty Rig was pretty great too.

Yeah, that Dirty Rig album is pretty fantastic. I have my favorite tracks just piled into my own Warrior Soul compilations. Same with Kory's best solo tracks.

DTWM is my favorite WS...super aggressive and Kory still has part of a voice left.

I discovered this band only last year, I'm surprised that it flew right past my radar. Both albums are great but Salutations for me has some really amazing standout tunes that catapult it over the edge

Over time I've decided that Warrior Soul... love the concept more than the records. Kory was a superstar, and loved his voice and lyrics, but the albums were so stiff and corporate sounding - so against who Kory is. So I was always like desperately trying to like the records and hitting a wall.

I think the first three Warrior Soul albums are great, with Salutations from the Ghetto Nation being my favorite. I haven't enjoyed anything they have done since then. They just don't have the sardonic edge since Kory replaced the musicians from the original trilogy of releases.
