Post Tom Hunting Appreciation Thread
I think its a good time for this as they release a new one.

But nobody ever really talks about the guy. I wonder why? I think his style is all his own and one that ive always enjoyed. I do enjoy seeing Exodus live because the crowds always seem to love him. Still interesting we never talk about him tho.

Dude's a CRIMINALLY overlooked thrash drummer. Very unique style. Totally trucks. :m:

His style is unique. Quite frenetic with atypical fills. Yet tasteful as all hell. Why was he never even occasionally talked about in the same regard as Lombardo?

I love this guy. He has sort of an old timey way of playing the drums if you watch him, and he’s as good as it gets for thrash guys from that era. I thought of this thread because of this text exchange between me and one of my friends earlier today, it made me LOL when he called him “that old ass drummer” kind of made my day. Dude is old and deep in the metal for many years, but doesn’t know shit beyond the huge name as far as guys in bands and history goes.

Me: Fuck, this new Exodus album kind of smokes. More than it has a right to at least.

Friend: Haha, barley listened yet, been hitting that ATG album hard.

Me: Haven’t heard more than a song off that, but this thing is pretty much just riffs and Souza going to town.

Friend: That’s pretty much all you need. Plus, that old ass drummer still bringing it hard like he always does.

He fucking rules. The Nicko McBrain of thrash.
He's all over the new album and a huge reason why it rips so hard.

I like him and the albums he's on but he's nowhere near the league of Lombardo, Bostaph, Hoglan, and others.

Agreed. To me, Holt & Hunolt were the engine room of this band.

Who are the others you speak of?

Other than the three listed, I don't think that there are many thrash drummers from that era that are better. Guys like Perry Strickland from Vio-lence, and Charlie Benante are maybe as good, but not many come to mind is being clearly better. Either way, I think that Hunting has his own style in that group, and I have always thought that it was an important part of the Exodus sound. I don't play shit though, so my opinion on this is only worth so much I guess.
