People should talk more about the Kinks. 1966-1970 Kinks is unfuckwithable.

The only thing more annoying than the Beatles are their boomer era fans who insist that the Beatles are the be all/end all of rock music and that all must worship at their altar. I'd rather fuck my own ears than hear that happy go lucky bullshit. I'm not a Stones fan, either, none of their music makes me want to punch someone in the face like "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and that type of garbage.

I no longer have any faith in DaTroof's musical taste or opinions or recommendations. Forever suspect. And it's craziness if you think The Beatles' sound starts and ends with "I Wanna Hold Your Hand".

Nice to see this poll as close as it is! Two unquestionably brilliant acts. I can't even imagine what I'd be listening to now if it weren't for my pops, The Beatles, The Stones, and Jimi.

And now that someone mentioned Can't You Hear Me Knockin', all I want to do is get the fuck out of the office and go smoke darts and guzzle beer.

I love them both, but The Beatles are just better IMO. The Stones are more "rocking" and "cooler," but The Beatles were more groundbreaking, creative, and talented. Plus, I just like The Beatles more overall. Anyone who thinks The Beatles are just happy-go-lucky hasn't dug too deeply into their discography. Admittedly, a lot of it is happy-sounding, but there's more going on than that. The Stones are definitely darker overall, so I see why they appeal more to metal fans.

The Beatles did have some rather dark moments, though. Not so much in the early, happy days, but some songs in the mid to late period like "Eleanor Rigby". But they certainly weren't 100% "happy go lucky", that's for sure.

Voted for the Beatles who, despite having the shorter career, incorporated as much quality material in a decade than the Stones have in five.

Jesus....this poll is the most evenly matched one I've ever seen on this board.

That's a great place to start! Mine was Abbey Road.

Oh hell yes. Total worship.

To me the Stones are one of the few legendary bands that actually deserve all the hype they receive. Their music still holds up to this day.

I need to listen to early Kinks music more. I somehow, years ago, ended up with the Come Dancing With the Kinks album, which is a best-of set of late 70s and early 80s Kinks songs, with a few live older songs. I love that album, but I understand (from lots of people) that the 60s and early 70s stuff is better.

I'm only familiar with the early stuff...mostly the sixties...and I need to spend some time with the later stuff (70s especially). :)

I hate the term ''proto-this'' or ''proto-that'' but I want you (she's so heavy) is probably the first proto-doom track and Helter Skelter the first proto-metal track

Yeah thats a lot of proto, sorry

I actually didn't mind Steel Wheels and a few select songs from the Stones' 80's catalogue (so bored of "Start Me Up" though). It was really Bridges To Babylon that put me off the Stones afterwards when they attempted the modern ambient 90's sound. Not to mention that "Anybody Seen My Baby" was practically lifted from k.d. lang's "Constant Craving" if anyone ever gets a chance to read Keith Richards' autobiography explaining the connection between the two songs. Richards even had to give lang last-minute songwriting credits on that song seconds before it was to be released as a single and distributed internationally.
